Speaker: Margie Wakeman Wells
Topic: This session by Margie Wakeman Wells will focus on classifying the multitude of comma rules into two categories: commas that separate grammar elements so that they do not pile up on each other and commas that surround/set off grammar elements so that they can be isolated from other elements in the sentence. Margie will discuss some of the more recent rule changes — removing periods and apostrophes from abbreviations, and transcribing elements so that they are compatible with searchable documents. As time permits, she will also discuss some of the dilemmas that surface when dealing with the spoken rather than the written language.
