GUEST – Susan Lapooh
I began working as a transcriptionist in 1996. My aim was to utilize my administrative skills while being able to work from home and care for my child. Initially, my focus was on transcribing content related to entertainment. However, I soon diversified to other areas such as conferences, financial calls, police interviews, insurance calls, and eventually legal transcription. Over the next 20 years as an independent contractor, I had the opportunity to work with various styles, formats, and templates.
Although I enjoyed transcription, I was always interested in the other side, the capture of the record, court reporting itself. In 2018, I was given the chance to train as reporter and for the next two and a half years I worked independently as a digital reporter before joining Remote Legal in 2020.
As director of testimony capture at Remote Legal, a tech-enabled court reporting firm with its own proprietary videoconferencing platform built specifically for legal proceedings, I assembled a team of reporters and transcribers who provide professional reporting services and precise, verbatim transcripts on a daily basis.
In addition to my work at Remote Legal, I am honored to serve on the board of directors for the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT). As a national certifying board, AAERT is dedicated to promoting digital reporting and transcription, by offering its members valuable resources and tools to improve their abilities. My primary goals are to enhance AAERT’s visibility on a national level and motivate its members to embrace and utilize new technology to maximize their productivity and efficiency.
