GUEST – Betsy Ertel

BIO: Betsy Ertel began her professional career after graduating with a 2-year college degree in Medical Office Administration. She landed her first job as a medical transcriptionist in the teaching hospital environment of The Medical University of Charleston, SC. She labored in the Medical Records Department on a Selectric typewriter using x5 carbon copies with a corrective pencil eraser with the little brush on the end, of course. Spending 45+ years inside the medical transcription community with multiple leadership positions, diverse committee Chairs, and serving on national boards and advisory councils, she has learned what the word transcription means, whether it be for medical, legal, or generic typing content. In 1991, she attended the Stenotype Institute of Jacksonville Beach, FL, learning the stenotype machine and its theory. Being CEO of the SpeedType™ system since 1999, she developed a knowledge base of the many features and preference settings necessary to produce a high-end output product. This journey has taken her across the broad spectrum of diverse associations, corporations, countries, and individuals reaching out for enhanced computer knowledge base to satisfy their expected demands.

Through the years, she has acquired multiple awards and achievements to mark her impact inside the productivty communities. Some of those being a Circle of Commitment Award, Distinguished Service Award, Member of the Year Award, Advocate of the Year, Technology of the Year, AHDI-Fellow, Worldwide Who’s Who, Member of the Better Business Bureau since 2006, while serving as corporate vendor support to many national associations and state associations with speaking engagements for educational purposes, all the while providing CEUs for attendees.
Helping others to perfect their keyboarding skillsets while impacting paychecks and quality of life, she prides herself in being a global product, even as a translator tool, no matter what the end user language is, to save mega minutes and hours at the keyboard for those who seek it.

While serving at the executive board level she has acquired leadership skills that put first the importance of each organization. Serving on a leadership level is her favorite hangout place with others who deem to make a difference in our future accomplishments. Life has been quite a journey with many lifelong friendships and experiences and is still rolling out. Her baseline theme is…..Never Quit! Be the best that you can be investing in yourself and your profession at the maximum level.
